Vigils, marches take place in 45 cities across Morocco in solidarity with Gaza

Moroccan activists and religious figures stressed Al-Aqsa’s significance in Islam and warned against escalating attacks on Islamic holy sites, noting a rise in Israeli settler raids and restrictions on religious practices since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.

Vigils and marches were held in at least 45 cities across Morocco on Friday in solidarity with Gaza, with hundreds of protesters condemning Israeli actions in the besieged enclave and at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque. Demonstrations followed Friday prayers and were organised as part of International Jerusalem Week, with major gatherings in Rabat and cities including Tangier, Agadir and Tetouan.

Protesters denounced repeated Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa compound, attempts to alter its status and identity, and what they described as efforts to normalize settler presence there. They also criticized Israel’s conduct in Gaza, citing forced starvation, severe humanitarian conditions and violations of the ceasefire, while calling on the international community and Arab states to take action.
