Donald Trump Gold Dome Greenland Star War
U.S. President Donald Trump justifies his desire to strengthen American influence over Greenland with a major strategic project: the “Golden Dome,” a missile defense system presented as essential to North American security. According to him, control of the island would be necessary for the deployment of this system.
Inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome and the 1980s Strategic Defense Initiative, the Golden Dome aims to create a global shield based on a vast network of satellites capable of detecting and intercepting missiles in real time, including from space. Donald Trump claims that this system could neutralize any threat and guarantee complete protection of U.S. territory.
However, the project has sparked strong international criticism. Many experts believe it could disrupt global security and trigger a new arms race, particularly in outer space. Several analysts denounce a unilateral militarization designed to strengthen American dominance.
The cost of the program is also controversial. Officially estimated at $175 billion by 2028, it could reach up to $800 billion according to some specialists. Washington is also reportedly seeking financial contributions from its NATO allies, which could increase budgetary pressure in Europe.
Doubts also remain about the project’s technical feasibility. Military officials and arms control experts acknowledge the lack of a clear final architecture and emphasize the difficulties associated with deploying weapons in space.
For many observers, the Golden Dome is as much a political strategy aimed at boosting Donald Trump’s image as it is an operational defense project. In response, Russia and China continue to promote an international agreement to prevent the militarization of space, supported by a majority of countries at the United Nations but opposed by the United States and its allies.
