WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has privately discussed firing Attorney General Pam Bondi, expressing frustration over what he views as her insufficient aggression in targeting his political adversaries and her handling of the Epstein files, according to reports from The New York Times and CNN.
The Times, citing four unnamed sources, said Trump has floated replacing Bondi with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.
The White House and Justice Department did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. In a statement to the Times, Trump praised Bondi as “a wonderful person” doing “a good job,” and her spokesman referred to that statement.
Bondi, a former Florida attorney general who represented Trump during his first impeachment trial, has faced criticism over perceived political pressure on federal law enforcement, including federal probes into Trump’s perceived enemies.
A congressional panel has also subpoenaed her over the Epstein investigation.
