WASHINGTON — House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced Friday that he agrees with First Lady Melania Trump’s call for congressional hearings with alleged victims of Jeffrey Epstein, stating flatly: « We will have hearings. »

Comer’s remarks to Fox News’ America Reports come one day after Melania Trump made a rare public statement urging Congress to allow Epstein’s accusers to tell their stories under oath — a move that thrust the long-running scandal back into the political spotlight.

« I agree with the first lady and appreciate what she said, » Comer said. « We will have hearings. »

The chairman revealed that committee attorneys have been in regular contact with Epstein’s alleged victims, noting that while some are willing to testify, others are not. « We have always planned on having a hearing with Epstein victims once the depositions have been completed, » Comer added. « So we’ve still got some more high-profile men that are coming in. »

The development follows the Justice Department’s release of millions of files related to the late financier, who died in jail in 2019 while facing federal sex-trafficking charges involving minors. His death was ruled a suicide. More than 1,200 alleged victims have been identified in documents steadily released since late 2025.

In her Thursday statement, the first lady denied any connection to Epstein or his crimes, and said she was not one of his victims. President Trump told The New York Times on Friday that while he did not know the exact content of his wife’s remarks, he supported her right to speak. « I said, ‘If you want to do that, you can do that,' » the president recounted, adding that he did not recommend she speak out.
